#1 (F) WING REUNION
Ottawa/Stittsville, ON
September 8-9, 2006

Welcome

Welcome to the greater Ottawa region and the first Canadian-based reunion for those who served at 1 (F) Wing as military and civilian personnel and for their spouse and offspring!

The impetus for this reunion was the amazing, September 2-3, 2005, 50th Anniversary Celebration in the Lorraine region of France and Belgium of the founding of 1 (F) Wing Marville. The cities and citizens of Marville, Longuyon, Virton and Florenville generously hosted over 150 former “one-wingers” at receptions, parades, dinners and an amazing air show. We who were fortunate enough to attend can vouch for the super skills of the local organizers and the warm hospitality of the folks who live in the area. Of course, many “one-wingers” were unable to attend that event.

And so the proposal of a Canadian-based reunion arose. An initial e-mail survey of several hundred Marville “one-wingers” elicited a strong, positive response. Interest was also expressed by those who served when the wing was based in North Luffenham, before Marville, and when it was based in Lahr, afterward. So, it was decided to organize this reunion.

The objective of the reunion is to encourage and facilitate a get-together of all those with an attachment to 1 (F) Wing. The event is organized in a ‘fluid’ format. The organizers only hope to “set the stage” and let the attendees be the scriptwriters and actors. There will be a few quasi-formal aspects but, basically, the role of the organizing committee will be to help ‘interested groups of attendees’ (squadrons, trades, teachers, ‘brats’, wives, civilian employees, etc.) organize their own informal get-togethers, displays of scrap books, slide shows and videos.

Likewise, there will be no centrally planned tours although organizers will certainly help to gather and circulate information to anyone who would like to visit some of the attractions of the Nation’s Capital: the War Museum, the Air Museum, the Museum of Civilization, the National Art Gallery, or the Parliament buildings.

Come meet old friends and discover new ones. And be prepared to make and have your own fun.

Venue

All official activities will take place at the Karters’ Korner Recreational Park at the corner of Fallowfield Rd. and Huntley Rd. (check www.karterskorner.com website for Map Quest direction.) A hard copy map pinpointing this venue and nearby hotels will shortly be available through our e-mail address or by regular mail, on request. No physical access difficulties are anticipated and we will be protected from the elements and, hopefully, flying insects. Regular bus transportation will be provided between the two hotels mentioned below and Karters’ Korner.

Cost

The registration fee is $50.00 per person that covers participation in all ‘official reunion functions’. Of course, attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from Ottawa, accommodations and meals and refreshments not otherwise specified. Since there are no public or private sponsors of the reunion, your registration fee also reflects a portion of overhead costs.

NOTE: Any surplus funds after expenses will be donated to the RCAF Museum in Trenton.
